Austin Shoupe is a musician and educator based in the Quad State region of Kentucky. Currently, he serves as the Director of Percussion Studies at the University of Tennessee – Martin where he teaches applied lessons, percussion ensemble, and percussion methods while directing the Aviator Marching Band drumline and the UTM Roots of Rhythm program. Prior to his position at UTM, Shoupe was the Director of Instrumental Music at Thomas Jefferson High School (Rockford, IL), Percussion Director at the Central Kentucky Youth Orchestra, and a percussion instructor at numerous high schools including Woodford County High School (Versailles, IL) and DeKalb High School (DeKalb, IL).
Shoupe has performed with ensembles throughout the Chicagoland, Bluegrass, and Jackson Purchase regions including the Jackson Symphony, the Paducah Symphony Orchestra, Elgin Summer Musical Theatre, and the DeKalb and Wheaton municipal bands.
Shoupe has studied music performance, music education, and music theory at the University of Kentucky, Northern Illinois University, and the University of Southern Maine. His percussion teachers include James B. Campbell, Paul Deatherage, Greg Beyer, and Nancy Smith.
Shoupe is an educational endorser of Zildjian Cymbals and Innovative Percussion. He also a member of the Black Swamp Percussion Educator’s Network.
